Coral Reef Restoration

In 2024, our notable achievements included launching a large-scale coral restoration project to improve reef resilience and raise awareness of the ecological and economic opportunities of healthy reef systems. Concurrently, we assisted the protected area management authority, Fanamby, to distribute professional fishing cards to close to 300 registered fishing association members, which are used to validate fishing rights in the archipelago. These cards assist both Fanamby and the Ministry of Fisheries to oversee compliance with sustainable fishing practices and, by proxy, improve biodiversity and grow marine biomass in the protected area. Further, our Conservation Coordinator, Marcellin Tsihoboto, completed the “Effective Management for Marine Conservation and Biodiversity in Africa” course at the African Leadership University’s (ALU) School of Wildlife Conservation. Recognised as one of the top five performers, he was awarded five-days at the ALU Mauritius campus to further collaborate with scientists and conservationists in the Western Indian Ocean on effective marine governance.
