Computer Literacy
In 2022, we have our first cohort of seven formerly sponsored secondary school students attending a year-long course in computer literacy. Even the best boarding schools in our areas struggle to effectively teach computer literacy given limited numbers of computers and challenges with electricity. When students lack proficiency with computers, their ability to apply to universities and bursaries is severely hindered, and they also fall behind in their university courses, which we’ve observed with our college students in the past. This one-year course focuses on building skills in Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, analytics, graphic design, email communication, and social media, and we anticipate that upon completion 100% of students will go on to apply for college and bursaries. As of June 2022, 30% of students have already secured placements at top universities in Zambia for 2023 and will be applying for government grants later in the year.
